On 23 September, Dinesh Dhamija (LibDem MEP for London), in partership with the UK Permanent Representation to the EU and Eurogroup for Animals, opened the exhibition titled Illegal Wildlife Trade.

Open from 23-27 September, the exhibition informed MEPs and visitors to the Parliament that the illegal wildlife trade not only endangers some of our most iconic species of wildlife, but it is a serious organised crime and damages the livelihoods of some of the world's poorest communities.

The Representatives of Governments, recognising the significant detrimental economic, environmental, security and social impacts of the illegal trade in wildlife, made a political commitment and called upon the international community to act together to support and build urgent collective action to tackle the illegal wildlife trade as a serious crime carried out by organised criminals, and to close markets for illegally traded wildlife.

Having a Liberal Democrat MEP open this event and bring to light this critical issue to our friends and allies in the European Union makes clear the value our MEPs bring to the Parliament. Liberal Democrats bring the important issues of our time to the forefront of the political agenda and campaign for effective change at the EU level
