General Election Count 2019

Welcome to Stockton Liberal Democrats

This is the website for the Liberal Democrats based in Stockton-on-Tees covering the Stockton North and Stockton South constituencies. Since the referendum in 2016 we've had a lot of new members join. People who are unhappy with the outcome and the way it was won. People who want to join the Fightback to protect human rights and civil liberties, to protect the NHS, to reform our broken electoral system and to provide a coherent opposition to the Hard Brexit Conservative government.

This website gives you the opportunity to find out more about Lib Dem parliamentary candidates and councillors and our policies and news. We would also love to hear from you and get you involved in campaigning for the party.

Why You Should Join The Lib Dems

Our constitution starts with these words... "The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity." We're not here to support the privileged or to implement the policies of the trade unions.

We are internationalists who believe in the UK's membership of the European Union and who want to treat immigrants as positively as the British would hope to be treated if we moved abroad. If that sounds like the sort of party you would like to be a member of, then you can join as a member for as little as £12 a year.

I want to send my best wishes to Muslims in the UK and across the world as we welcome the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is a time of reflection, renewal and generosity. These are much needed in our communities, our politics and all our lives.

A second year observing Ramadan with restrictions on meeting together will be difficult. Holding an iftar will be different, loved ones will be missed and celebrations will be muted.

On behalf of her family, it is with great sadness that we announce that Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby, died peacefully in the early hours of Monday April 12th.

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said:

This is heartbreaking for me and for our whole Liberal Democrat family.

Shirley has been an inspiration to millions, a Liberal lion and a true trailblazer. I feel privileged to have known her, listened to her and worked with her. Like so many others, I will miss her terribly.

"Prince Philip dedicated his life to our country. We will always be grateful for his amazing service, not least the powerful legacy he leaves to millions of young people who have taken part in his unique Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

"His quiet and steadfast counsel and support of The Queen, is perhaps his greatest if unquantifiable contribution to our nation's history.

"At this sad time for millions, we should never forget Prince Philip was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. So our thoughts must be with the whole Royal Family, but in particular with The Queen at this difficult time."
