North East MEP Fiona Hall, has welcomed today's vote (7 July 2010) in the European Parliament restricting bankers' bonuses in Europe and seeking to ensure that banks are sitting on stronger capital reserves than before the financial crisis. The Liberal Democrat MEP also heavily criticised UKIP and BNP for voting against the tough new laws.

The Liberal Democrat - Conservative coalition government yesterday announced the end of the Garden Grabbing which has so changed Eaglescliffe over recent years. Under the previous government our pleas to change the rules fell on deaf ears. Gardens were classified in the same way as derelict factories - previously developed land. Beautiful old houses were demolished and the land along with the garden used for flats and their car parks. Houses were built in the back gardens of other houses. Local people worried that the character of Eaglescliffe was changing for ever.

Jacquie Bell would like to thank all those who voted Liberal Democrat on May 6th. "We had more votes than in 2005 in a wider field of candidates and in the midst of a tactical voting battle between Labour and the Conservatives. It is interesting that more voters backed parties other than the winner. A sure sign of the need for a fairer voting system.

Last night was a disappointment for the Liberal Democrats. Even though more people voted for us than ever before, even though we had a higher proportion of the vote than ever before, it is of course a source of great regret to me that we have lost some really valued friends and colleagues and we have returned to Parliament with fewer MPs than before.

Voters living at various places around the Stockton constituencies have been telling us that the Royal Mail has not delivered a Liberal Democrat election leaflet or delivered one for the wrong constituency. I'm sorry that this has happened - I sent the right number of leaflets to the Royal Mail and the Ordnance Survey supplied them with the constituency boundaries.

He spoke of Lib Dem plans to get our banks supporting local businesses that have viable plans to create new jobs;

Jacquie Bell, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Stockton South attended debates for young people at Stockton 6th Form College and Yarm School. A debate at Egglescliffe School was put off due to the volcanic ash which detained its organiser abroad.

Philip Latham met with Shirley Williams to press the case for Stockton having its fair share of public and private investment in renewable green technologies. Shirley reminded Philip that in the 1980's the Conservatives created mass unemployment in the North East and destroyed the old industrial heart of the region. Neither Labour nor Conservatives have put Stockton renewal at the top of their agendas.

Last night was the final of the three televised Leaders' debates. Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, debated with Gordon Brown and David Cameron about the economy. Subjects discussed included breaking up the banks, creating more jobs and reinvigorating the British economy.
