Commenting on Frank Cook's decision to stand as an independent in Stockton North Philip Latham, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, said "This has now made Stockton North a marginal seat. Labour's support has dramatically declined since 1997 and this is no longer a safe seat.

"This contest is now wide open and the Liberal Democrats are the only party offering real change based on the principle of fairness for the people of Stockton."

"Labour and Tory are the old parties of the past: Liberal Democrats are the party for now and the future."
