No Exciting Facilities for the Young People of the Borough of Stockton

September 13, 2009 12:00 AM

Stockton's children and young people are missing out on fun and excitement compared to their neighbours in the other Tees Valley local authorities it was revealed at a Council meeting last Wednesday. Eaglescliffe Councillor Alan Lewis (Lib Dem) asked the Cabinet member for Children & Young People what plans the council had to address the concerns of the residents that there aren't enough facilities for the young people of the borough,

He was not satisfied with the answer that various plans were to be implemented.

Alan asked the Cabinet member at the meeting "if he was aware that Stockton was the only local authority in the Tees Valley that hasn't yet provided a static off road cycle facility e.g. a BMX track or Skateboard Park for its children and young people". BMX and Skateboarding have been around for many years yet the youngsters of the borough of Stockton are still riding their bikes and boards wherever they can sometimes in dangerous places, sometimes to the annoyance of the residents." He added "This is a disgrace for a top performing authority, and we really must not fall behind what our neighbours are providing, as well as take every opportunity to give fun ways of tackling child obesity"
