Election Joy

Liberal Democrat Members of Stockton Council

The Liberal Democrat Group

Stockton Liberal Democrats had a very successful election day. In Billingham North Ward we faced very heavy campaigning by both Labour and Conservatives, but took all three seats with very comfortable majorities.

In Eaglescliffe all three seats were held, with Alan Lewis taking over from Mike Cherrett who retired. John Fletcher and Maureen Rigg were the only councillors in the entire borough to poll more than 2000 votes.

The biggest success of the day was recorded in Bishopsgarth and Elmtree with Julia Roberts increasing her majority from 43 to to 951, while Suzanne Fletcher doubled hers. A stunning result, showing how much their work has been appreciated by the people of the ward over the past two years. This year they registered over 67% of the votes cast.

The results for all wards can be seen on Stockton Council's website (link on left of the page).

A huge thank you to all the people who worked so hard to ensure that we have 8 councillors with strong mandates to work for a fair, honest, open and green borough.

We promise to do all in our power to make sure that there are changes for the better in Stockton.

In Billingham, Colin Pollard was elected to the newly formed Town Council. Colin has campaigned tirelessly for years for the Council and it is fitting that he is now a member of the first elected Town Council.
