News of Eaglescliffe Ward

1. Council Elections

The Returning Officer has advised that ballot papers could arrive from now onwards at the addresses given by voters who have chosen to vote by post. While we normally keep this e-mail circular non-political, may we remind you of the service you have received from your Liberal Democrat councillors over the years and ask you to vote for:

FLETCHER, John Alan

LEWIS, Alan Leonard

RIGG, Maureen

the 3 Liberal Democrat candidates.

Alan Lewis is standing in place of Cllr Mike Cherrett, who retires after 8 years on the Borough Council. John Fletcher and Maureen Rigg, who have been Borough Councillors for 20 and 4 years respectively, offer to continue to serve you.

You have 3 votes in the Borough Council election.

There will be no ballot papers for Egglescliffe or Preston-on-Tees Parish Councils, as all candidates nominated (including John, Alan & Maureen in Egglescliffe) have been returned unopposed.

2. Preston Park

The Vehicle Rally, on 24 and 25 June will feature Armour Geddon, a ten car crushing monster, and Broke FMX - an extreme, death defying, motorcycle stunt team.

The Summer Show, on 24 - 27 August, will feature last year's popular Festival Circus and Ridgeside Falconry as well as Gerard Naprous' Devil's Horsemen for a return visit. His team will be performing their Wild West Show on Sunday and a Medieval Jousting Tournament on Monday.

3. Durham Lane

On 11-10-06 a Stockton Council Asset Technician wrote, With reference to the problem of flooding during extreme wet weather on Durham Lane in the vicinity of Cowley Moor Farm, I am able to inform you that I have liaised with a representative of Elementis Chromium. The excessive amount of surface water was not a result of run-off from higher land belonging to Elementis Chromium adjacent to Durham Lane. This was due to the fact that behind this embankment was a reservoir/basin into which surface water was held and prevented from running onto highway land.

It was concluded therefore that during times of very heavy/prolonged rainfall the surface water gullies at this location simply were unable to run due to the sheer volume of water coming from associated ditches and pipework further up Durham Lane into an open watercourse to the north of the entrance to Cowley Moor Farm. During times of extreme weather the pipework taking surface water which outfalls into this watercourse runs at full capacity.

We have carried out an investigation along the west side of Durham Lane opposite Cowley Moor Farm, in an attempt to locate any buried pipework which may be damaged/blocked. If located we propose to clear/repair the pipework and also carry out associated ditching works within the grass verge along this side of Durham Lane, which we hope will act as a relief system for the two surface water gullies during times of extreme weather.

On 23-4-07 she wrote, Ditching works have since been carried out and pipework has been located. We have attempted to jet the pipework though to no avail and therefore I have added this to a list of locations which require the hire of a large high pressure jetting unit. We propose to schedule these works into a programme within the next 4 weeks…
